This past weekend I think I saw it firsthand. It all started back on April 8th, 1947. That was the day my father was born. This past weekend I attended my father’s surprise 60th birthday party. In one room stood the accomplishments of a life well lived – a room full of friends and family who all traveled the country as a demonstration of how much he is loved and appreciated. Their presence was testimony that this man has found the purpose of life. When you reflect and account for what really matters in life, it is not the degrees, awards, rankings, sales totals, bank account figures, your address or make of car you have that answers the “purpose of life” question. It is the relationships you build with other people and the love you experience and share with them. Yet, how do we spend most of our life on a daily basis. Think about what gives you stress day to day –that sale, an important meeting, the upcoming presentation, quarterly earnings, etc. Those are the things that occupy our life force every day. We are missing THE POINT or PURPOSE. In the end, none of things really matter. It is our relationships where we will find our meaning and our fulfillment of having lived a life worthwhile. This day, do something in alignment with your real purpose – reach out to someone and in some way tell them how much they matter to you. Hopefully you will one day find yourself in a room full of people who are there only to tell you how much your life matters and how much they love you. That is my goal. Happy Birthday again Dad. What a wealthy man you are.
